My Turbulent Career

Looking at my resume...it's a mishmosh of things
From the tiny jobs, bookkeeping, security monitor, stock room clerk on, the jobs are short term. I could never settle on what I wanted.
I got into computers since I had the skills and needed a job basically...but grew into the field and the social culture associated with it. Unfortunately my resume reflects the contracting nature of the industry. Luckily I seem to have settled into a good permanent position. I hope to go with this as far as I can.

However, the stories I can tell about the jobs I've been at....

WindRiver....intro to industry...free food, drink, the works...free game room...the hot tub...I was in absolute heaven!!! Job paid decently well to for just out of school and was only a bus ride away. Awsome co-workers, and the absolute best boss (sorry Andy) made it very sad to leave after 2 months of contract. The only negative about this job was that it was technically boring...I answered the phone. However this did allow me to learn mucho and train others and go beyond my job. To this day I still ocassionally hang with these co-workers.

OnlineFocus....first real system administration job. I ran into many problems and did lots of trial by fire here. Learned a lot, and not all of it technical. Had to learn how to coordinate and work with co-workers and face the realities of being a system administrator.

The other jobs were all mostly okay...just more experience and learning about recruiters, the field and the business...and I definetly hate tech support. Socialnet was my longest employment so far...6 months...and it was a great happy situation but too bad the company had to do lay offs. Mark was a great guy to work with also. The only other thing of note is a business trip to Paris to do some training for Knox Software. That is totally another story for the vacation/travel section.

Chiron...the absolutely most interesting job was definetly the two months I spent here. In addition to a cool bio-tech environment, I had the wildest co-workers They were all "freaks" and we had loads of fun partying, drinking, and the works. Thank God I legally don't have to disclose any of it. :) Let just say the internal working environment was a blast with everyone knowing their shit and doing a great job. So much fun in fact that I almost went to work with one at another company, but since that fell apart, I ended up going to work for another co-worker from Chiron...Andy. In closing here, I'd like to say we all rememeber Jeff Moore of Chiron and hope he's in a better place now. And all we ex-chiron people need to get together and party more! :)

SpringStreet.com a Homestore.com company. I am working here with Andy and so far it's been good, quite and stable. I just hit 6 months today! yay...on 6/28/2000...so this is going for a tie as the longest term employment so far. Looks like the turbulent career ride may be over. unless I get bored and decide to shake it up of course. hehe..I will reserve judgement on this job until one yr or until I quit or get fired. Yeows...it's 9/30/2004 now and believe it or not, HomeStore turned out to be the best job ever as well as wins longest employment so far, 1.5yrs. Good manager, then I got to manage. I even got my brother in law hired and ended up supervising him! The money was rolling in. But of course I remember the battles with Bailey and corporate and etc.

I WILL FORGET THE DAY THE BUBBLE BURST and the DOT COME DREAM DIED

Current Job ... GoodVibrations. This is definetly a huge change for me. I've decided to go into project management, but ended up doing IS manager stuff here. This is officially the most exciting and freaky environment ever. It's a online retailer of adult toys and it certainly takes a special persona to work here in a co-op environment. So far I love it but again will have to reserve judgement. Offical start date 9/7. Ironic I didn't start earlier due to the "labor" day holiday. hehe
